Latimer Fitness Company history

My name is Lyle Latimer and I am half of Latimer Fitness.  I would like to take a minute and share the story of how our company came to be.

I have been a competitive bodybuilder for years, always using the same pre contest diet.  My reasoning for using the same boring diet is, "If it's not broke don't fix it."  Then, in 2004, I met my beautiful wife, Christy, who was an incredible culinary expert.

In 2005, I started getting ready for the NPC Mr. Midwest and Christy ate right along with me.  She realized that what I thought was the perfect diet was far from perfect and definitely broken.  She couldn't believe how horrible the food tasted; but she put up with it for that pre contest.  Even though I won the show, Christy realized that I didn't enjoy dieting.  I told her no one enjoys dieting, just the end results.  She didn't agree with me and informed me she woud be planning my diet for the next show.

In 2008, we agreed on doing the Mr. Southern Minnesota and she planned my pre contest diet for me.  I was shocked at how good my meals tasted!  Equally as shocking was how fast the fat was dropping off.  I went from 225 pounds to 182 pounds in 7 weeks.  I came in at 3.3% body fat and won the overall title.  I learned diets don't have to be boring or tasteless.  You can eat a gourmet meal every night - even when you are on a diet!  We knew we had to share this innovative way of dieting.  That is why we started Latimer Fitness!

       2008 Mr. Southern Minnesota

 The story continues.....

On May 6, 2008 we found out that my win in Minnesota qualified me for the Mr USA contest in August. So along with getting clients ready for upcoming shows in Des Moines, Omaha, and Tulsa...Christy is going to be doing my precontest diet for the biggest show of my career. But there is nobody I trust more with my body then my wife. She is always ready for a challenge. At present I'm 216lbs at just under 10% bodyfat. We are planning on bringing me in at 2.5% bodyfat. We will keep everyone informed on our progress.

June 2nd the diet starts.....

I've been dieting for 3 days now, down 3lbs(water weight) but i wanted to share with you some of my meals. In the last 3 days my meals have included: Baked shrimp and feta, Tuscan grilled steak and fried eggs with goat cheese, Mahi mahi with spicy slaw and of course Christy's famous Ricotta dessert. I can honestly say I am craving nothing! This way of dieting is incredible! I will post again soon....hope everyone is in summer shape!

July 1st 4 weeks of dieting....

As of July 1st I am at  7.5% bodyfat and weigh 193lbs. My energy levels are doing much better this time around. Christy has kept my complex carbs at 100grams, mostly in the morning. We have developed a protein pudding that has 20 grams of protein and 16 carbs. I eat this at night to fight off any sweet cravings I might have. We took pictures and everything is coming together perfectly. I was planning my workouts, but as of last week Christy has taken over my training. Our intensity has skyrocketed. She makes me work twice as hard as before. I love these workouts...strip sets, forced reps, and heavy negatives..MY WIFE ROCKS!!!! Not only is she my nutritionist but now she is my trainer. With her planning every aspect, I can't lose!!!! I predict TEAM LATIMER WILL HAVE A VICTORY!

July 28th went on vacation..

Christy and I just got back from vacationing in Utah. We there for Christy's family reunion. You will be happy to know we both stuck to our diets and didn't miss a single workout, even though it was an hour commute(both ways) to the gym everyday. Christy actually made me start doing cardio. We both felt like I was flattening out to soon, so she raised my protein and had me doing 15 minutes of high itensity cardio to make up for the extra calories. I am now under 5% bodyfat at 187lbs. I still feel good. My energy levels are just now starting to diminish a little but not bad. With less then 3 weeks left before my show, I can honestly say I'm in the best shape of my life.

August 7th water drop test...

We are 9 days out and we are dropping my water tonight to see how I look. Its not fun..lol. My carbs are near zero for the remainder of the time, which is hard. Christy is doing wonderful at preparing me awesome tasting low carb meals. But it is my energy levels that have gone down the drain. Especially on my 11 hour days at work, by the end of the day I am wiped out!!!! I'm very lucky to have a beautiful wife who revives my attitude as soon as I walk in the door. I will be honest, there is nothing that can beat having a very committed partner when you are getting ready for show. I AM A BLESSED MAN!!!!!

August 11 carb depleting.....

Christy will tell you I'm not very pleasant right now!!! I started carb depleting and anyone who has done it nows it makes you mean and irritable. I am looking forward to Thursday when I start carbing up. First thing I am having is Chisty's oatmeal protein pancakes with apples and peanut butter...oh yeah! Then we have our cheat day after the show already planned out...I'm so excited, I can eat everything I want all day. It might be the best day of the year...lol.

August 13 last day of depleting...

It has been rough! I have been fighting a cold and carb depleting. So I know my wife loves me very much or she would thrown me out by now...lol! But tomorrow is different I start carb loading, which I enjoy. I will have my last workout tomorrow morning after my pancakes :) Friday morning we leave for the show. I have decided to go with Rob Zombie's Dragula for my posing music. This is a huge change for me, as I have always posed to slow music. Rob Zombie is one Christy's favorite artists and we both thought we needed a big bang at this level of show, so we will see how it goes.

August 18,  MR USA OVERALL CHAMPION!!!!!

We won the show. I was at my all time best on saturday. I was  leaner and drier then ever before. Friday night when Christy was putting on my final coat of Pro Tan we became aware of my condition....It was perfect...so I kept waking her up the whole night to make sure it wasn't changing. But I held overnight. And now it's history. It's back to the drawing board. We will now start focusing on moving me up to the next weight class by the 2009 season. Christy is doing my off season diet at 5200 calories. Should be easy to grow off that. On a lighter note over the last 3 days I have eaten everything....burgers,fries,onion rings, pizza, ice cream, oreos, doritos,MARGARITAS and I am up 17lbs in 3 days...lol I love it.....I WANT TO GIVE A SPECIAL THANKS TO MY NUTRITIONIST,BEST FRIEND,TRAINING PARTNER AND WIFE CHRISTY....WITHOUT HER THIS WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE....THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING...I LOVE YOU!

OFFSEASON STARTS NOW!!!!

Christy decided not to wait to get started on putting more size on. So as of August 24,2008 I weigh 203.5lbs on our weigh to 240lbs by New Years Eve. My training differs slightly. I have more rest in between sets, less reps(except on legs they stay high volume just heavier weights), and mostly compound exercises. I will be doing cardio all year this time. My offseason supplements are whey protein isolate(which is the only protein powder source I use) glutamine,BCAA'S, creatine, and flax seed oil. And lots of food. I like to eat, especially when Christy is cooking: ). I consume meals every 2 hours. I don't use a pre workout supplement I eat before I workout so I have energy. I do drink a shake during my workout consisting of 2 cups orange juice, 1 scoop orange pineapple Isopure protein powder, 10 grams glutamine,10 grams creatine, and 10 grams BCAA'S...sometimes I will also throw in 1 cup orange sherbert. I will keep everybody updated on my progress. If you have training questions feel free to email me. Better yet come train with me for a day..

Offseason going well....

We are in the third week and everything is going great. The weights I'm handling are getting consistantly heavier and my bodyweight is going up. I'm still doing cardio daily...which I have enjoyed...Now this saturday September 6th at Big Iron Gym they are having a powerlifting meet, I'll be there giving away free day passes to the gym along with discount personal training coupons. Come out and say hi and see the strongest guys and gals in the world lift some heavy ass weights!

Big Iron Meet......

The meet was fun. Any show Rick and Becca put on is always first class. Richie Briggs hit a personal record of a 865lb bench press and just missing a world record 903lb bench!!! All the lifters did well, these are some seriously strong people. If you have never been to a meet, go to the next one. You won't be disappointed.

Our business is growing like crazy. It keeps us very busy, but we are enjoying it. I just never get enough time to just relax with Christy. We are either working with clients at Big Iron, at GNC, or chasing Tula B. around. We get about an hour every night. We either watch the food network or lately we have been watching parts of Jay Cutler's new video. It is so nice to just sit, relax, and watch tv with my beautiful wife and crazy daughter. There my girls and I LOVE THEM!!!!!!!

Kansas City show......

Me, Christy, and Tula B.(my daughter's nickname) are heading down to KC on saturday to watch the Gold's Classic bodybuilding and figure contest. Our figure clients are heading down  to see some of the competitors . A couple of our girls are competing for the first time, so I hope they will pick up some pointers. I'm looking forwar to being in the audience and not on stage..lol.

On another note, I get asked alot about the supplements I use or what I think is the next big thing because I work at GNC. Well here is what I don't use: pre workout products(I have no problem getting up for my workout, I don't need a product with a bunch of stimulants and almost no functional ingredients!) I don't use anything with a proprietary blend(it's a fancy way of not telling you how much of any ingredient your getting) I don't use low grade proteins( I only use whey protein isolate) I don't use fancy creatine( I use old school monohydrate) it works, why pay more for the new creatines? I don't use weight gains(there is nothing wrong with them, I would rather eat something Christy has cooked:). So there are a few of my OPINIONS!

If you have any questions about supplements feel free to email me.

Kansas city figure......

We went down and watched the Gold's Classic in Kansas city on saturday. I saw a couple of the pro figure division contestants compete before and this was NOT there best showing. When I compete my goal is to be in better shape for each show I do. But that is not everybody's goal obviously. If your at a pro level you should be able to look at yourself and know if you are on track at 8 weeks,6 weeks, 4 weeks, and so forth. And from there you should be able to make adjustments to your training and diet to dial your physique in. Or atleast find someone who can help you. Because nobody is going to win on name alone. This is why we monitor our clients every week. We take pictures, body composition, and adjust there calorie intake weekly. So we can make comparisons and adjustments as needed.Ok I'm done rambling!

2 weeks until the Bluffs Classic. We are excited! We have 3 clients in the show.1 in beginning figure,1 in open figure and 1 in the pro figure. They all look incredible. Plus we have a booth at the show. Everyone please come out and support them and all the other competitors. It is a really good time and inspiring!

SEPTEMBER 21, FINAL PREP FOR THE BLUFFS CLASSIC.

We have started the fianl prep for our clients competing in the Bluffs Classic on saturday. They are all in fantastic shape. We feel they are going place very well. It's a busy week.I am dropping their water, adjusting  their sodium levels, and changing their supplements every few days. Christy will start pro tanning the girls(which takes several coats) and saturday morning will be up at 4:00 am to do make up and hair for the girls. Please come out and watch these incredible athletes.  They have trained hard, stuck to a strict diet, lost countless hours of sleep and have had to perfect there posing and walking in 5 inch heels! They will put on a great show on saturday.

Latimer Fitness kicks ass at the Bluffs Classic!!!

Our girls did awesome! Kayla was in the beginners class took 4th place and did great and already is planning on doing another show. Sabrina in her first show as a pro took 2nd place, did I mention it was her first pro show, she looked fantastic. 40+, mother of 4 and looks better then any 20 year old I have ever seen! Muscular and shredded. I am in awe of her every time I see her pose.

And finally tiny Trish, it's hard to put in words how good she looked. It was her first show ever, and she won the whole show. SHE WON HER HEIGHT CLASS, THE OVERALL, AND SHE RECEIVED HER PRO CARD!!

Christy and I are so proud of these girls, they worked so hard, not missing workouts, not skipping meals, and taking their supplements everyday. But when you set goals, and don't let anything get in your way you can achieve anything. These girls are proof.  And they all ran into road blocks along the way and pushed through them. They had negative people telling them they weren't good enough or there were better people out there but they didn't let anything stand in there. They believed in themselves and we believed in them. It was an honor to work with them and THEY ARE ALL WINNERS!!!!

I have one last comment. One of the contestants who placed high, which I won't call a winner because that is not a word that describes them, is ,in my opinion horrible for the sport, they are arrogant, self centered and believe everything should be given to them instead of earning it. This person puts other contestants down and thinks there better then anyone even though i have seen them not place at all in a show. I will go on record to say I have no respect for them period!

OCTOBER 22,2008.....

I thought I would update everybody on whats going on with Latimer Fitness. Christy is getting ready for a bench press contest this weekend, must be Big Iron rubbing off on her...lol. I am excited for it. She will be the hottest powerlifter ever: ).We are getting new clients like crazy...people want to get in shape. Over the next 8 weeks we will start getting people ready for the next series of shows. The first will be the Liberty show in Missouri in april. We have 2 confrmed figure contestants. Halloween is coming up and Tula B. is going to be a princess....Christy and I are looking forward to it. She is old enough to have fun this year. I'll check back in later and let you know the results of Christy's contest.

NOVEMBER 11,2008....

Christy won both classes she entered at the Iowa State powerlifting championships. She also set 2 national records. This was a raw meet, meaning no lifting shirts or suits to help. This was also a drug free meet. I am so proud of her. So along with being a great mother, incredible business partner, awesome cook, the hottest chic on the planet, and a super wife...now she is a national record holder!!!!!. Did I mention how sexy she is.....very!.  It looks like we will be working with some familar faces for the liberty show. I won't leak any names yet, but we are excited to have them back.
